FAQs
Do you travel for photoshoots? Absolutely! I love a drive where I can whip out my car-eoke on the way to you. I do however stick to a free 100km radius from Hamilton, so anything outside of this may require a custom travel quote which we can discuss when you reach out.
What if my kids aren't behaving on the day? You’d be surprised how many beautiful moments come from simply letting kids be kids. If they want to run, we’ll run with them. If they want to hide, we’ll turn it into a game. Some of the most meaningful photographs happen in those unscripted little moments. Family sessions are relaxed and flexible, with plenty of space for breaks, cuddles, snacks or whatever your little ones might need in the moment. I allow up to 1.5 hours for sessions so there’s never any pressure to rush or force anything. You don’t need to stress about perfect behaviour or whether the photos will turn out “right” - your job is simply to be present, play, connect and enjoy time with your family while I take care of the rest.
What do we wear for our session? Once you’ve booked with me, I’ll send through an easy wardrobe guide to help make outfit planning feel simple and stress-free. I’ll guide you towards colours and textures that typically photograph beautifully, and help you avoid a few common no-nos, like large logos, super bright colours or overly busy patterns that can sometimes distract from the connection in your images. But comfort is always key. And honestly? If bright colours are more your thing, feel free to throw my guide in the bin. Your photos don’t need to fit a certain aesthetic to be meaningful. Sometimes it’s not about looking “perfect” or overly curated. Sometimes it’s simply about documenting you, exactly as you are in this season of life.
When is the best time to have a maternity session? Around 30–34 weeks is usually a good time for maternity photos, when your bump is bumping, but you’re still feeling relatively comfortable. Every pregnancy is different though, so there’s no hard and fast rule. If you’re feeling great earlier or want to wait a little longer, we can work around you.
When should I book my maternity session? I recommend getting in touch during your second trimester so we have plenty of time to find a date that works for you. If you’re already further along, don’t stress, just get in touch and I’ll see what I can do.
Can my partner and kids be included in my maternity session? Absolutely. Your maternity session doesn’t have to be all about the bump. Your partner and little ones are more than welcome, and we can make the session a mix of photographs of you, your growing family and the little moments between you.
When should I book my newborn session? I recommend booking your newborn session while you’re still pregnant. We’ll use your due date to roughly plan your session, rather than locking you into a specific day. Once your baby arrives, we can choose a date that works around their actual arrival and how you’re both doing.
How old should my baby be for their newborn session? I generally recommend somewhere around 1 - 6 weeks old, but there’s no need to panic if your baby is older than that. Babies don’t read the rulebook, and there are still plenty of beautiful things to photograph beyond those first few weeks.
What happens if my baby arrives early or late? Nothing to worry about. Your due date is just our starting point. Once your baby arrives, let me know and we’ll adjust the session date to suit. I always leave a little flexibility around bookings for this reason - babies have their own plans.
What if my baby needs to feed, sleep or be settled during the session? Then we stop and do exactly that. Newborn sessions are baby-led, so there’s plenty of time for feeding, changing, settling and cuddles. There’s no expectation for your baby to sleep through the whole session or behave a certain way.
Do you do posed newborn photography? My newborn sessions are relaxed and baby-led rather than heavily posed. I’ll gently guide you when needed, but I’m much more interested in capturing your baby as they naturally are, along with the connection between you and what those early days actually feel like.
